August 13, 2010 | 10-120251 - Drug Trafficking - At 9:40 p.m., West Division Community Response Officers conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of the Bedford Highway and Moirs Mill Road. Further investigation by officers resulted in marijuana, scales, cell phones, drug paraphernalia and cash being seized from the vehicle. Three youth and one adult have been charged with trafficking and will appear in court at a later date. |

The spill occured along the Bedford Highway and into the Sackville River. Environmental agencies were called to investigate. Police assisted where necessary to support the clean up. |

One adult male driver, was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries and will be charged with dangerous driving. |

April 24, 2010 | 10-57561 - Drugs - At 11:45 p.m., police conducted a vehicle stop on Bedford Highway near Sullivan's Hill in Bedford, which resulted in the discovery of a small quantity of marijuana. Four adult males, 18, 20 and 21-years of age, were charged with possession of marijuana and released to appear in court at a later date. A 17-year-old male was held in custody and will appear in youth court on possession of marijuana and breach of probation charges. |

January 4, 2010 | 10-1875/2167 - Impaired Driving - At 8:40 a.m., a 50-year-old woman was arrested and charged for impaired driving and released. At 6:48 p.m., police were alerted to a possible impaired driver on the Bedford Highway. Upon stopping the driver, she was found to be the same person charged earlier in the day. The accused was charged with refusing the breath test and held for court tomorrow morning. |

December 22, 2009 | 09-188537 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 5:50 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of the Bedford Highway and Meadowbrook Drive. A 58-year- old women was struck by a vehicle while crossing Meadowbrook Drive in a crosswalk. She was taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non life threatening injuries. At this time no charges have been laid and the matter remains under investigation. |

December 14, 2009 | 09-184766 - Assault Police Officer - At approximately 6:15 p.m., police arrested a 31- year-old man for shoplifting, possession of illegal drugs and outstanding warrants. En-route to the police station, the man appeared to have swallowed an unknown substance. The officer pulled the police car to a vacant lot to check the status of the man. The man forced his way out of the police car by striking the officer in the head with a blunt object. The officer attempted to gain control of the man who was attempting to escape. In the struggle both the officer and suspect ended up on the Bedford Highway facing oncoming traffic. The suspect was controlled and handcuffed by the officer. Both the suspect and the police officer suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The Integrated General Investigation Section are investigating the incident at this time. |

A 19-year-old man faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, while a 21-year-old man was charged with possession. Both were released to appear in court at a later date. June 1, 2009 | 09-78502 - Stabbing - At 9:36 p.m. police responded to a report of a stabbing at a coffee shop at 930 Bedford Highway. Upon arrival officers found a 20-year-old man lying on the floor suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The preliminary investigation indicated the victim was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of the coffee shop. A group of males drove into the lot and one of the occupants began to have a staring contest with the victim. The suspect then left his vehicle and went toward the victim's vehicle. April 26, 2009 | 09-59071 - Robbery - At approximately 12:03 a.m. two men entered a business in the 1600 block of the Bedford Highway. The men stated they had a weapon and demanded cash. The store clerk complied and the two men fled the area on foot. A K-9 unit tracked the men to an address on Birch Street where they were taken into custody without incident. The money taken in the robbery was recovered, but no weapon was located. The two men will appear in provincial court today to face charges of robbery and wearing a disguise while committing an offence. | |

April 12, 2009 | 09-51942 - Attempted Break and Enter - HRP West Division Patrol members responded to a residence on Lookoff Lane just before 11 p.m. where the homeowners reported someone had just smashed a basement window out of the home, apparently in an effort to break in. It appeared the individual had been scared off by the alarm, which was set off. As a result of quick response by Patrol members and an HRP K-9 unit, a suspect was taken into custody shortly afterwards on foot on the Bedford Highway. As a result of investigation, the 43-year-old man was charged with breaking and entering. He was scheduled to appear in court today. |

March 25, 2009 | 09-42771 Robbery - At approx. 11:10 p.m. a male entered Arbys Restaurant at 1762 Bedford Highway after closing and forced staff to the ground. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described as possibly white, wearing a heavy black winter jacket with the hood up with fur around the hood, and wearing a black mask. He was possible carrying a silver gun. There were no shots fired and no injuries. The matter is still under investigation. |

January 16, 2009 | 09-7874 - At 11:19 a.m. this morning a 29- year-old man entered the Scotia Bank, 1658 Bedford Highway, jumped over the counter and attempted to take money from the cash drawers. After being told to leave, he fled to the parking lot where he attempted to force a male out of vehicle. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled into the wooded area behind the mall. Patrol members with the assistance of K9 conducted a 2 hour track, eventually coming out in the area of Smith's Road, Bedford. There, officers learned that the suspect had taken a taxi to an address in the 300 block of Lucasville Road. Police attended the address and located the suspect inside the residence. He was arrested without incident and is currently being held on charges of attempted theft in relation to the incident at the Scotia Bank, attempted robbery relative to the vehicle and break and enter. No one was injured in any of the incidents. |

January 8, 2009 | 09-3811 - Weapons - At 3:30 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1600 block of the Bedford Highway on a suspicious vehicle with two male occupants. The passenger bolted from the vehicle and the officer pursued him on foot. The officer received a minor injury during the foot chase but was able to apprehended the 29-year-old suspect, who was carrying bear spray. It was determined he had passenger had several outstanding warrants. The two men will be held for Court in the morning. One man is facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and warrants. He received minor injuries during apprehension which are being treated at QEII. The second man is facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and breach of a Court Order. |

January 2, 2009 | 09-1165 - Pursuit - At 1:30 p.m. West Division officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of the 600 block of the Bedford Highway as a passenger in the vehicle was wanted for an outstanding file. The driver failed to stop for police and continued driving for a short distance, until the passenger fled the vehicle and ran towards the railway. He was pursued on foot until he was located back on the Bedford Highway and arrested. The 23-year-old man is in custody. The driver of the vehicle has not been located. November 20, 2008 | 08-172421 - Robbery - A 21-year-old man reports he was walking in the area of Bedford Highway and Dartmouth Road at approximately 1 a.m. when he was approached by a dark coloured 4 door car. The passenger, who was armed with a metal pipe, got out of the vehicle and threatened the victim demanding he turn over all his valuables. The victim complied and was punched in the face before the suspect fled. The suspect is described as a white male, 5'10" wearing a grey jacket. The investigation is ongoing. The victim received a small cut to his lip, but did not require medical assistance. GIS is investigating. | |

November 7, 2008 | 08-165895 - Robbery - At 6:0 p.m. police responded to the TD Canada Trust, 1475 Bedford Highway,in relation to a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a man entered the bank and produced a note indicating he was in possession of a firearm and demanding cash. The suspect received a quantity of cash and left the scene on foot. There were no injuries and no weapon was produced or seen. The suspect was described as a white man in his 40's, 180 pounds, 5' 10" tall, wearing a khaki colored suit and tie and a ball cap. The incident continues to be investigated by the General Investigative Section. |

October 28, 2008 | 08-160951 - Attempted Theft - At 8:17 a.m. police responded to an attempted theft of cash from the cash register at the Aliant Store, 1658 Bedford Highway. The suspect in this matter, a 40-year-old man, was detained by security. Both he and his accomplice, a 16-year -old female, were arrested by police. Further police investigation revealed that the male suspect was also responsible for 10 other thefts or attempted thefts from business cash registers in the Metro area. The female is facing two counts of attempted theft in relation to this incident and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The man is faces 12 counts of theft or attempted theft and the possession of the stolen motor vehicle. Both are being held for court in the morning. |

October 27, 2008 | 08-160054 - Attempted Theft of Vehicle At 2:00 a.m. police responded to an attempted theft of vehicle on the Bedford Highway. The owner of the vehicle reported that he received a call from his neighbours indicating that they witnessed two unknown males inside his vehicle. Two suspects matching the description were located by police in the 200 block of the Bedford Highway and were arrested. As a result, break tools, bear spray and property stolen from the vehicle were located on one of the males. A 23-year-old man was charged with attempted theft of a vehicle was released to appear in court at a later date. A 22-year- old man was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen property, possession of break tools, attempted theft of a vehicle and breach of probation. August 28, 2008 | 08-126900 - Injury Accident - At approximately 2:20 p.m. a female in her late teens was struck by a vehicle while crossing the highway in front of the Sunnyside Mall, Bedford. The victim here received injuries to her neck and extremities which are not believed life threatening. August 13, 2008 | 08-119714 - Weapon - Just after 5 p.m., a patron at a retail outlet in Bedford Place Mall was walking down an isle in the store, and as he passed another man, the man waved a knife at him and muttered something he couldn't understand. Upon leaving the store, the patron alerted mall security of what had happened and police were in turn contacted. A 32-year-old man, still in the store, was arrested without incident by responding officers. A knife was recovered and the Sackville man is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, and Breaching a Recognizance. | |

July 28, 2008 | 08-114174 - Break and Enter - At 4:45 a.m. patrol members observed a truck stopped in the road near the intersection of Mumford Road and Romans Avenue, Halifax. When asked what the two occupants were doing, the officers were advised that the truck was out of gas. The driver asked for help to push the truck off the road. When members looked at the truck, they noted several items that appeared out of place, with brand names from one particular business. A quick check of that business, located in the 700 block of the Bedford Highway, indicated that a break and enter had just occurred. The two occupants were arrested for 'Break and Enter' and 'Possession of Stolen Property.' A 41-year-old man and 22-year-old man will appear in Court on Tuesday morning to face a variety of criminal charges. | |

April 25, 2008 | 08-59331 - Cyclist and Motor Vehicle Accident - At 5:30 p.m. members responded to a vehicle and cyclist accident at the intersection of Hammonds Plains Road and the Bedford Highway. The vehicle, a 2004 Sonata, was north bound on the Bedford Highway waiting to turn on to the Hammonds Plains Road. The 20 year old cyclist was coming off the Hammonds Plains Road on to the Bedford Highway. The bike and car collided, sending the cyclist and his bike onto a second car. There were minor injuries and medical treatment declined. No charges have been laid at this time. |

Two males entered the residence and assaulted the occupant and a visiting friend. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The suspects took a variety of electronic equipment and left the apartment. The resident was taken to hospital with a minor head injury. The matter remains under investigation. |

The suspect demanded cash, was given a sum of money and fled on foot. The clerk was not injured during the incident. October 10, 2007 | 07-155142 - Robbery - A man entered the rear door of the Bayview Motor Inn on the Bedford Highway and demanded the clerk open the safe. The clerk refused and pushed the suspect away. The suspect then pepper sprayed the clerk. The suspect took a quantity of money from the till and the backroom, and fled the scene on foot. Witnesses observed the suspect outside heading towards the back of the motel. The suspect was described as a white male, medium build and height, wearing a reflective orange and yellow jacket or vest, gloves, and a blue bandana over his face. The clerk received minor cuts after walking through a glass door due to the effects of the pepper spray. The matter remains under investigation. |

September 28, 2007 | 07-146728 - Robbery - At 12:30 p.m., a man exited the Sunnyside Mall in Bedford and was confronted by a man who threatened him and demanded money. The victim handed over a small amount of money. The suspect was described as black male, 20-years-old, approximately 6'1" tall, slim build, scruffy appearance, wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweater. September 16, 2007 | 07-141334 - Robbery -At approximately 12:00 a.m., police responded to a robbery complaint in the 500 block of the Bedford Highway. A man sold his vehicle and was paid in cash by the purchaser. The victim accompanied the buyer outside to where the vehicle was located. After changing license plates, the buyer drove off in the vehicle. When the victim turned to go back into his apartment building, two masked men emerged from a wooded area. One man was carrying a knife. The suspects assaulted the victim and demanded "the money". The victim was taken to his apartment where he gave the cash paid for the vehicle to the suspects. An HRP K9 unit located a vehicle believed to have carried the suspects to the area. The occupants of the vehicle, a man and woman, were arrested and the vehicle was seized by police. Police arrested one of the suspects in Dartmouth. He will appear in Court at a later date. Update Members of the Integrated General Investigative Section attended a Maple Street address in Dartmouth at about 5:30 last evening and arrested a 16-year-old male in relation to the above incident. Further, an 18-year-old Dartmouth man attended police headquarters in relation to the matter just after midnight, and was also arrested without incident. Both are scheduled to appear in court today facing a number of charges in relation to the incident, including "Robbery", "Unlawful Confinement" and "Possession of a Weapon." These two individuals are allegedly the masked pair who approached and actually robbed the victim as he returned to his apartment. | |

May 16, 2007 | 07-70180 - Break and Enter - Patrol Officers were approached on Bedford Highway near Dartmouth Road by a male at 9 p.m. indicating he had observed a female acting in a suspicious manner on a sail boat on Waterfront Drive. The officers obtained a detailed description of the female and at virtually the same time, the boat's owner was contacting police to report his vessel had been broken into. At approximately 9:40 the officers observed a female matching the suspect's description walking on Bedford Highway at the Sackville River Bridge. The 42-year-old was taken into custody and as a result of investigation, was charged with Break and Enter. |

April 25, 2007 | 07-58559 Police Car Accident - At 10:05 p.m. an officer was conducting a routine traffic stop for a speeding violation. The violator pulled into the Sunnyside Mall parking lot on Bedford Highway to stop for the officer. It appears as though the officer made a slight judgment error and ended up driving past the car he was stopping and drove into the garden located just outside of the Second Cup restaurant. The officer was not injured and the damage to the mall property and the police car is considered to be minor in nature. |

The male driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third vehicle observed the accident and stopped, and then a fourth vehicle struck the rear of the third vehicle. The driver of the fourth vehicle was also transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. |

August 3, 2006 | 101445 Double Fatality Motor Vehicle Collision hregion Police is currently on-scene at a double fatality collision on Bedford Highway between the Fairview Overpass and Bayview Road. At approximately 3:15 p.m., police responded to the collision involving a car and a dump truck. While it is very early , the investigation, it is believed the car travelling outbound crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the in-bound dump truck. A driver and a passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene and a third occupant was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. HRP Accident Investigators are on-scene attempting to determine the cause of the collision, and the investigation continues. Traffic is expected to be affected for several hours and motorists are asked to avoid the area. Police thank the motoring public for their co-operation. |

The suspect was described as a black male , his twenties, 5'8, about 190 lbs, with his face masked. A short time later a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's was spotted by police , the area of the Fairview Cemetery. When police attempted to stop the vehicle the driver abandoned it , the cemetery and fled on foot. A search warrant was later executed , relation to the matter at an address , the 3600 block of Federal Avenue however no arrest has been made to this point. The matter remains under investigation. |

The suspect is described as short , stature, dark complected, approximately 40 years of age, wearing hospital style clothes and was wearing a face mask at the time of the robbery. The suspect did manage to escape with some cash, cigarettes and numerous lotto tickets. Investigators are working to determine whether these two robberies are connected. There were no injuries sustained , this incident. |

The car essentially disintegrated with the engine block separating from the car entirely. The driver was extricated from the remains of the vehicle by the fire dept and taken to the QE2 for treatment. The 44-year-old male driver received very minor injuries.
