oxford street & QUINPOOL Road August 15, 2010 10-120701 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 5:52 p.m., a west bound motorcycle struck a car turning right from Oxford Street onto Quinpool Road and then subsequently struck another car travelling eastbound on Quinpool Road. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries to his leg. This matter is still under investigation and charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are expected.


6324 quinpool road August 14, 2010 10-119793 - Impaired Driving - At 4:49 p.m., an officer approached a vehicle at the McDonalds at 6324 Quinpool Road in Halifax. The driver put the vehicle in drive and hit the unattended police vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating stolen vehicle.


purcells cove road August 14, 2010 10-120012 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 3:05 p.m., a two vehicle accident between a car and a bus occurred at near Purcell's Cove Road and Frog Pond. An 83-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim will not be released pending next of kin notification. Members of the Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Team are on presently on scene investigating the accident.


joseph howe drive & BAYERS Road August 9, 2010 10-116667 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 10:21 a.m., police responded to a report of a transport truck which overturned on Joseph Howe Drive off Highway 102, Halifax. Upon arrival, it was learned the truck flipped onto its side and struck a car. The driver of the car did not receive any injuries. The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics and taken to the QE2 Hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries. Joseph Howe Drive was closed between Mumford Road and Bayers Road for several hours. The matter remains under investigation.


July 14, 2010 10-101429 - Car and Pedestrian Accident - At 12:30 p.m., police responded to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of Stanbrae and Purcells Cove Roads in Halifax. A pedestrian crossing the street was struck by a truck when the driver attempted to pass a Metro Transit Bus. A 14-year-old male was transported to the hospital non-life threatening injuries. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident. The matter remains under investigation.


6000 almon street July 3, 2010 10-95843 - Industrial Accident - At 6:25 p.m. police responded to an industrial accident in the 6000 block of Almon Street in Halifax. A 22-year-old man sustained injuries as a result of a fire that occurred while he was working on a vehicle. The man was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.


1316 old sambro road June 21, 2010 10-88867 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 4:45 p.m., a three vehicle accident occurred at 1316 Old Sambro Road in Halifax. A vehicle was travelling outbound on the Old Sambro Road and failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the centre line and struck a Metro Transit Access-a-Bus travelling inbound. The vehicle spun and collided with a pick-up truck. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the QEII Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor in the cause of the accident.


ROBIE street & lady hammond road June 20, 2010 10-88133 - Car Pedestrian Accident - At approximately 12:27 p.m., police responded to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of Lady Hammond Road and Robie Street in Halifax. A 14-year-old boy was crossing the street and was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Lady Hammond Road that had proceed through the intersection on a green light. The vehicle struck the youth and drove on top of him. Several people, including off duty firefighters, ran to the car and lifted it on its side. The youth was taken to the IWK Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.


PORTLAND street & pleasant street June 19, 2010 10-86741 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At midnight, police responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Portland Street near the north-bound exit to Highway 111. Witnesses stated that the driver of a 2010 Camaro struck the rear end of another vehicle at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Highway 111. The driver did not stop but continued north-bound on Highway 111 traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver took the Portland Street exit, driving over the median and striking a concrete wall. The Camaro received extensive damage. The driver was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital. The driver of the hit vehicle was also treated for neck pain at the hospital. A 33-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested for drinking and driving and faces charges of refusal of the Breathalyser and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He was released to attend court at a later date.


quinpool road June 16, 2010 10-85333 - Bicycle and Motor Vehicle Accident - At 4:20 p.m., a man riding a bicycle on Quinpool Road in Halifax was struck by a vehicle turning right into a parking lot. The cyclist flipped over the engine bonnet of the car and the vehicle ran over the cyclist's legs. The man was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No charges have been laid at this point. The matter is still under investigation.


BURNS drive & primrose street June 8, 2010 10-81385 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Impaired Driver - At 9 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Primrose Street and Robert Burns Drive in Dartmouth. Prior to officers arriving on scene, the driver of one of the vehicles attempted to flee the scene but was thwarted by witnesses. He was arrested for impaired driving, taken into custody and later released. He will appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.


21 pleasant street June 6, 2010 10-79502/10-79503 - Hit and Run and Impaired Driving - At approximately 1:40 p.m., a grey Kia Forte struck another vehicle near 21 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. While fleeing the scene, the vehicle drove across a lawn and struck a nearby house, causing substantial damage to the front porch and lawn. The vehicle managed to continue until it struck a light standard pole at the corner of Maple and Dahlia Streets. At this point several witnesses suggested to the driver that he remain at the scene until police arrived. The driver, a nineteen-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He was held to appear in court on Monday to face several driving offences including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle struck by the Kia was treated by EHS at the scene for minor injuries.


3171 joseph howe drive May 27, 2010 10-74095 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 11:22 a.m., a cube van struck and broke a power pole at 3171 Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax. Emergency vehicles responded and Nova Scotia Power was called to replace the pole. No one was injured during the incident. A 39-year-old man was issued a Summary Offense Ticket.


main street May 26, 2010 10-74369 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Shots Fired - At approximately 9 p.m, two vehicles were travelling inbound on Main Street in the area of Forest Hills Parkway. A Nissan Sentra with two occupants, pulled up beside a Cadillac with one occupant. One of the suspects in the Sentra began shooting at the Cadillac. Both vehicles made u-turns, with the Sentra pursuing the Cadillac. An East Quick Response Unit in the area at the time observed the Sentra run a red light and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Nissan turned onto Forest Hills Parkway at a high rate of speed and rear ended a vehicle. Both suspects attempted to flee the vehicle on foot but were quickly apprehended by police. The Cadillac was later located in North Preston and seized by police for further examination. Four bullet holes were found in the vehicle. The occupant of the vehicle has not yet been located but it is believed he was not injured in the incident. The 19-year-old male driver of the Sentra faces charges of failing to stop at an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm and breaching a court order. The 17-year-old male passenger of the Sentra faces charges of pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm, and breaching a court order.


bedford highway & MEADOWBROOK Drive May 16, 2010 10-68126 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 12:40 a.m., near Meadowbrook Drive in Bedford. A vehicle was observed by police travelilng at a high rate of speed, when it left the road smashing into a fence and a deck near the 1200 block of the Bedford Highway. One adult male driver, was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries and will be charged with dangerous driving.


6100 lady hammond road May 16, 2010 10-68140 Motor Vehicle Accident - Approximately 12:40 a.m., in the 6100 block of Lady Hammond Road in Halifax. A head on collision occurred between two vehicles. Both air bags were deployed but no one was injured. One adult male has been charged with Impaired Driving with a pending court date.


283 thomas raddall avenue May 13, 2010 10-66617 - Motor Vehicle Accident - Approximately 12:07 p.m., at Halifax West High School, 283 Thomas Raddall Avenue in Halifax. A pick-up truck struck another vehicle while entering opposite ends of the bridge. The pick-up truck flipped on its side. Both drivers attended the QEII Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck was charged with careless and imprudent driving.



dahila street May 13, 2010 10-66622 - Single Motor Vehicle Accident - At 12:20 p.m., in the area of Dahila Street in Dartmouth, a 31-year-old female while working for a landscaping company cutting grass, was injured when a vehicle struck and pinned her against another parked vehicle. The female was sent to the hospital with undetermined injuries. The matter is still under investigation.



EVERETTE street & pleasant street May 13, 2010 10-66734 - Motorcycle Accident - at 3:48 p.m., at the corner of Pleasant Street and Everette Street in Dartmouth, a motorcycle struck a vehicle from behind resulting in the driver falling off his bike with minor injuries. The matter remains under investigation.



111 May 11, 2010 10-66375 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 7:30 p.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Highway 111 in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle turned over on its roof. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. This matter remains under investigation.


500 old sambro road May 8, 2010 10-64292 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 4:30 p.m., a vehicle left the roadway and struck a power pole in the 500 block of Old Sambro Road in Halifax. The pole was sheared off and wires were across the roadway. Traffic was reduced to one lane until power crews are able to remove the downed lines. The driver of the vehicle did not appear to be injured but was checked at the scene by Emergency Health Service.


drive May 2, 2010 10-61590 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 4:40 p.m., a vehicle exiting a driveway in the area of Innovation Drive in Bedford was struck by a pick-up truck towing a trailer. Two adults believed to be in their eighties, were taken to the QE11 Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Update -
April 22, 2010 10-55762 -Motor Vehicle Accident - At 5:20 p.m., a 6-year-old girl was struck by a passing motor vehicle, when she ran out from between two parked cars. The vehicle was driving slowly, and the injuries to the child were not life threatening. She was taken to the IWK hospital for assessment. At this time, it does not appear there were any infractions under the motor vehicle act. The investigation into the accident will continue.


100 purcells cove road April 22, 2010 10-56454 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 11 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle accident in the 100 block of Purcell's Cove Road in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers found a 77-year-old female driver had driven into a retaining wall of a private residence. The driver is in critical condition at the hospital. The matter remains under investigation.


April 20, 2010 10-54899 - Injury Accident - At 4:30 a.m., a vehicle was travelling north bound on Highway 111, the driver fell asleep and the vehicle flipped. Fire Service attended to extricate the driver from the vehicle and he was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.




nantucket avenue April 14, 2010 10-51811 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 1:30 a.m., Police stopped a vehicle at the Tolls of the MacDonald Bridge, when officers approached the vehicle, the driver sped off. The vehicle was located a short distance later at the top of Nantucket Avenue up against a tree with extensive damages. The 22-year-old female driver was extracted from the vehicle by EHS and Fire. She was taken to the QEII Hospital with serious injuries.

It is believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. This matter is being investigated by the Accident Investigation Section.


BRAESIDE court & braemar drive April 10, 2010 10-49427 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Braemar Drive in Dartmouth. Initial investigation indicates that a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Silverado collided head on near the intersection of Braemar Drive and Braeside Court. According to residents who heard the crash, the male driver of the Silverado fled the scene on foot toward Waverley Road. The three occupants of the Corolla, two men and a woman, were trapped and required the jaws of life to extract them from the vehicle. All three were taken to the QE11 with serious injures. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.

Update - (2:47 p.m.)
Police are still looking for the driver of the v Silverado who fled the scene of an accident. Late today, through legal council, police learned that the driver had contacted family members and was seeking medical assistance for his injuries. The investigation into the accident continues.


woodlawn terrace & QUINPOOL Road April 6, 2010 10-47458 - Motor Vehicle and Cyclist Accident - Approximately 2:00 p.m., on Quinpool Road near Woodlawn Terrace in Halifax, a 22-year-old male was taken to the QE11 Hospital with serious injuries as a result of an accident.

Accident Investigation was called to the scene to follow-up. This matter remains under investigation.




SCOTT street & joseph howe drive April 3, 2010 10-45934 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At approximately 12:09 p.m., police responded to a car and pedestrian accident at the intersection of Scott Street and Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax. A 61-year-old man was while struck crossing the street in the crosswalk. He was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The 54-year-old female driver was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk.


April 1, 2010 10-44782 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 9:35 a.m., police responded to a injury motor vehicle accident near the MacKay Bridge tolls. A car was travelling east and had just passed through the tolls and struck a tanker truck, which caused the truck to push the vehicle across the center barrier. Jaws of life were used to remove one of the passengers from the vehicle. The driver and a passenger were transported to the Dartmouth General Hospital for minor injuries. Traffic was re-routed while the accident was under investigation.


COGSWELL street & north park street March 15, 2010 10-36674 -Injury Motor Vehicle Accident and Pedestrian - At 8:54 p.m., at the corner of Cogswell Street and North Park Street in Halifax. A 37-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street. He was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The 49-year-old male driver was issued a summary offence ticket and charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.



pleasant street & CRAWFORD streets February 23, 2010 10-26935 At about 9:57 p.m. police responded to Pleasant and Crawford streets in Dartmouth for a car-pedestrian accident. A 42-year-old male was struck in a crosswalk while crossing Pleasant Street. He was taken to Dartmouth General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 74-year-old driver of the vehicle was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.


February 16, 2010 10-23254 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 1:24 a.m., a two vehicle accident occurred on the Highway 111 4A ramp in Dartmouth. One person was transported to the Dartmouth General Hospital with non life threatening injuries.


LARCH street & coburg road February 9, 2010 10-19619 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 4:30 p.m., police attending a motor vehicle vehicle accident at the corner of Coburg Road and Larch Street in Halifax. Traffic will be slow while offices complete their investigation.
Injuries are not life threatening.


joseph howe drive & POWER Highway February 4, 2010 10-17534 -Impaired Driver -Approximately 2:00 a.m., an SUV travelling northbound on Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax, struck a power pole shearing it completely off. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and refusing the Breathalyzer. He was treated by ambulance at the scene for a minor facial injury.

Many residences in the West End of Halifax were without power. Highway 102 and Mumford Road were closed until 7:00 a.m. to remove the vehicle and power lines. Mumford Road was closed from Romans Avenue to Joseph Howe Drive due to power lines being down.

Motorists are advised that lights at several intersections are not operational. Police were present at major intersections to direct traffic. Motorist are reminded to treat those intersections as a four-way stop.

Nova Scotia Power crews advised police it may be several hours before power is restored. The public should contact Nova Scotia Power for further updates on power restoration.


47 joseph young street February 2, 2010 10-15987 - Hit and Run - At 7:08 a.m., police responded to a hit and run accident on the Mackay bridge. A Dartmouth bound vehicle, struck another car and fled the area towards highway 111.

At approximately 7:55 a.m., the same vehicle struck a pole in front of 47 Joseph Young Street in Dartmouth and ran inside an apartment building. A 29-year-old man was arrested and face charges of impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He will appear in court at a later date. There were no injuries in either accident.


MORRIS street & south park street February 2, 2010 10-16945 - Traffic Accident - At 10:58 p.m., police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of South Park Street and Morris Street in Halifax. One vehicle driving south on South Park Street failed to stop at a red light and struck another vehicle driving west on Morris Street. No one was injured in the accident. One driver was issued a Summary Offence ticket for failing to stop at a red light.





osborne street January 26, 2010 10-12483 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 10:45 a.m., police responded to an injury motor vehicle accident on Osborne Street in Halifax. A dump truck ran into the side of a car, pushing it across the street. The driver of the car was transported to the hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. The road was closed and the matter is being investigated by the Accident Investigation Unit.


road January 22, 2010 10-11430 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 11:18 p.m., a single vehicle accident occurred near the intersection of John Brackett Drive and Ready Road, Halifax, when a vehicle left the road and hit a power pole, trapping the two occupants inside of the vehicle. They were removed by HRM Fire Services and transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.


QUEEN street & spring garden road January 20, 2010 10-9512 - Injury Accident - At 9:13 a.m., an on-duty Halifax Regional Police officer was struck by a truck while crossing the intersection of Spring Garden Road and Queen Street in Halifax. The officer was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for a crosswalk violation.


January 18, 2010 10-8709 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 4:15 p.m., a 27-year-old male driver lost control of his vehicle, causing the vehicle to jump the curb, drive over the sidewalk and into a fence near the Devonshire Arena. A woman carrying two small children received a minor arm injury but the children were not injured. The driver was issued a summary offence ticket for not having a licensed driver with him. Road conditions were slippery at the time of the accident.


HARTLEN street & tacoma drive January 18, 2010 10-9281 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 6:56 p.m., a man in a wheelchair crossing at the intersection of Tacoma Drive and Hartlen Street in Dartmouth was struck by a vehicle. The man received minor injuries and his wheelchair chair was damaged. The female driver was issued two Summary Offence tickets, one for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and the other for driving a motor vehicle without insurance.


quinpool road January 14, 2010 10-6831 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 10:16 p.m., a pedestrian was struck in a crosswalk on Quinpool Road and transported to the the QE2 Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket.


610 portland street January 12, 2010 10-5481 - Injury Accident - At 10:48 a.m., a vehicle struck a pole in the vicinity of 610 Portland Street, Dartmouth. The male driver was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.


st margarets bay road January 12, 2010 10-6286 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 8:56 p.m., police were called to St Margarets Bay Road, Halifax, in relation to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to the QE2 Hospital with minor injuries. A summary offence ticket was issued to the pedestrian for not being in a crosswalk.





599 prospect road January 6, 2010 10-2739 - Injury Accident - At 8:29 p.m., a two vehicle accident occurred at 599 Prospect Road, Halifax, with minor injuries to the involved parties.


111 & pleasant street January 5, 2010 10-1845 - Injury Accident - At 7:31 a.m., on Highway 111 at Pleasant Street, A two vehicle accident where one driver was transported to the Dartmouth General hospital with non life threatening injuries. The second driver was issued a summary offence ticket for a red light violation.



barrington street & DUFFUS Streets December 28, 2009 09-190200 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 9:36 a.m., police responded to an injury motor vehicle accident on Barrington and Duffus Streets in Halifax. A tractor trailer flipped on its side and struck a light pole, knocking it down. The driver of the vehicle was removed from the vehicle by HRM Fire Services and transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Barrington Street between Richmond and Rector Streets was closed until approximately 9 p.m. to facilitate the clean up of the scene as well as to replace the light pole.


1598 barrington street December 26, 2009 09-188946 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 3:30 p.m., a vehicle lost control and struck the Venus Envy store located at 1598 Barrington Street in Halifax, causing moderate damage to the building. A 60-year-old woman was issued a Summary Offence ticket for failing to stop at a red light. She was not injured in the accident.


7300 quinpool road December 23, 2009 09-189100 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Impaired Driver - At 11:45 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 7300 block of Quinpool Road in Hailfax. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that was extensively damaged up against a tree. The 24- year-old female driver fled the vehicle on foot and was apprehended moments later in a nearby backyard. She was taken to the hospital for treatments of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. She will appear in court at a later date to face impaired driving and related charges.
