December 7, 2011 11-185706 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 8 a.m. East members responded to the exit ramp of Highway 111 as a result of an overturned tractor trailer. The vehicle had fallen on its side while making the turn onto the exit ramp. No one was injured and the highway was closed for several hours.


BRUNSWICK street & north street October 27, 2011 11-164044 - Hit and Run Accident -Approximately 4:58 a.m., an HRP Officer observed a truck hit a power pole at the corner of Brunswick Street and North Street in Halifax. When police pulled up to assist, the truck backed into the police vehicle and fled. The area was checked in an attempt to locate the vehicle and driver when police observed a second power pole and fire hydrant damaged at the corner of Chebucto Road and Beech Street. The truck was located on Seaforth Street and belongs to a construction company who reported the vehicle stolen this morning. A K-9 unit checked the area but the driver could not be located. The officer was treated at the hospital and released. The file remains under investigation.



lacewood drive October 19, 2011 11-160117 - Injury Motor Vehicle Crash - At approximately 2:50 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 102 near the Lacewood Drive exit. The male driver lost control of his vehicle, which flipped over landing on its side. The driver contacted police to report the accident and was taken to the QEII Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The Lacewood Drive Exit 2A was closed while the HRP Accident Investigation Unit investigated the crash.


road October 15, 2011 11-158269 - Motor Vehicle Collision - At approximately 3:15 p.m., police responded to a head on collision between a pickup truck and a car in the 0-100 block of Ketch Harbor Road in Halifax. The driver of the pickup truck was extracted from the vehicle by HRM Fire and Emergency using a JAWS device, while the occupants of the car were able to exit their vehicle unassisted. All parties were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries and the matter remains under investigation.


duke street October 13, 2011 11-156729 - Assault - At 4:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Albermarble Drive near Duke Street in Halifax. A dispute between a Metro Transit driver and motorist had occurred. Upon arrival, it was learned the motorist exited his vehicle and boarded the bus trying to strike the driver. The driver exited the bus and the male followed him striking him in the chest and threatening him. A citizen attempted to stop the male suspect by standing in front of his car. The male put the car in gear and struck the citizen knocking him to the ground. A 41-year-old male was charged and will appear in court to face several charges included uttering threats, assault and assault with a weapon.



BARRINGTON street & spring garden road October 13, 2011 11-157306 - Pedestrian and Motor Vehicle Collision - At 6:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian and motor vehicle collision in the area of Spring Garden Road and Barrington Street in Halifax. An unoccupied vehicle hit a pedestrian who was crossing in the crosswalk, and then stuck a light pole. The vehicle suffered severe front end damage. The owner of the vehicle was located and it was learned that the vehicle had been left in gear and rolled from its location. The pedestrian was not injured and the owner recovered his vehicle.


stone avenue October 9, 2011 11-154677 - Assault with a Weapon - At 9:25 p.m., a taxi driver was dispatched to pick up a fare on Stone Avenue in Dartmouth. As he was parked on the street, two males approached his vehicle from the rear, one armed with a long wooden pole. The suspect struck the vehicle with the pole, smashing the driver's side window. He then attempted to strike the driver but the pole broke. The driver was able to grab a piece of the pole and fend off the two suspects, who fled the area on foot. The 45-year-old taxi driver of sustained minor injuries. The first suspect was described as a white male, 17 to 20-year-old, 6'1", medium build but not muscular, thin chin strap style facial hair, light coloured medium length hair, and a round face. He was wearing a bright blue t-shirt with no designs or writings and long baggy jean shorts that were below his knees. The second suspect was described as a white male, very tall and skinny. He was wearing dark pants and a white hoodie covered in small black crosses, with the hood up. His face was covered with a dark colored bandana and he was wearing sun glasses.


lake & grosvenor road September 18, 2011 11-142882 - Vehicle and Cyclist Collision - At 8:05 p.m., police responded to a vehicle and cyclist collision in the area of Kearney Lake and Grosvenor Roads in Halifax. A 14-year-old cyclist struck the side of the van,smashing out the window, as the van was making a right turn onto Grosvenor Road. The youth wasn't wearing a helmet at the time and received a cut to the back of his head. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. No charges are expected.


joseph howe drive September 13, 2011 11-140447 - Vehicle and Pedestrian Collision - At 5:15 p.m., police responded to a vehicle and pedesterian collision in the area of Joseph Howe Drive. At this time, it appears that a pedestrian was struck by a Metro Transit bus when he stepped into the roadway in an attempt to cross the street. The bus was travelling north on Joseph Howe Drive, proceeding under the Fairview Overpass at the time of the accident. A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. This incident remains under investigation but charges are not expected to be laid.


guysborough avenue September 7, 2011 11-136445 - Car Pedestrian Accident -At 8:20 a.m., police responded to the area of Guysborough Avenue in Dartmouth. A high school student was struck by a vehicle when he ran from a path onto the crosswalk. The 18-year-old male was transported to the QE2 hospital where he was treated and released. The 60-year-old driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.



massachusetts avenue & columbus street August 24, 2011 11-128077 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 6:18 p.m, police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Columbus Street in Halifax. The driver of the motorcycle, a 56-year-old man, was struck in the intersection and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The matter remains under investigation with charges anticipated.


HARE lane & windmill road August 22, 2011 11-127503 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 8:47 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Windmill Road and Hare Lane in Dartmouth. A 15-year-old male operating a motorized skateboard was struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection. The male was taken to the Dartmouth General Hospital with undetermined injuries. The intersection was shut down for approximately one hour. The matter remains under investigation but charges are not anticipated at this time.


August 20, 2011 11-126039 - Fatal Pedestrian and Motor Vehicle Accident - At 2:57 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 111, eastbound towards Burnside Drive, near Ramp 113A in Dartmouth. A male pedestrian was in the middle of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The matter remains under investigation by the Accident Investigation Team and Forensic Identification Section. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.


pleasant street July 7, 2011 11-100631 -Motor Vehicle Accident - At 11:57 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of Pleasant Street, near the North Woodside Community Center in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers located a pickup truck with three occupants inside the vehicle. It appeared the truck had struck a tree head on. EHS attended and all three occupants were transported to the hospital. Two sustained serious injuries. It is believed that speed and alcohol played a factor in the accident which remains under investigation.


300 ketch harbour road June 25, 2011 11-92377 - Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident - Halifax Regional Police responded to a single motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of Ketch Harbour Road in Halifax. A vehicle travelling outbound on the Ketch Harbour Road, left the road and struck a culvert. The 21-year-old male driver and the only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Halifax Regional Police Accident Investigation Unit are investigating the accident.


MAIN street & tacoma drive June 24, 2011 11-91646 - Vehicle Pursuit - At 2:30 a.m., an east patrol officer spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of Main Street and Tacoma Drive in Dartmouth and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from the officer and crashed into a parked vehicle on Mountain Avenue. The driver was apprehended a short distance away. A 21-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested and held for court to face charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police and leaving the scene of an accident.


portland street May 13, 2011 11-68654 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 3:46 p.m., a 51-year-old male driver lost control of his motorcycle while driving on the 111 highway, just before the Portland Street exit ramp. The driver was taken to the QE2 Hospital with serious injuries. The accident is under investigation by the Halifax Regional Police Accident Investigation Unit.


200 prospect road April 18, 2011 11-55797 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 9:10 p.m., in the 200 Block of Prospect Road in Halifax. A head on collision occurred, it appears one of the vehicles crossed the center line. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The road was closed to traffic until 10:30 p.m. The accident remains under investigation.








lacewood drive April 9, 2011 11-51082 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 1:15 a.m., police responded to the 102 Hwy near Lacewood Drive in Halifax, to a single vehicle accident. The accident caused extensive debris, which resulted in the 102 highway between between exit 2A to be closed for approximately three hours. The male driver, in his early twenties was taken to the QEII Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


barrington street March 17, 2011 11-38861 - Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 7:00 a.m., a 20-year-old female pedestrian was struck while attempting to cross Barrington street near the Niobe Gate Bridge in Halifax. She was apparently walking with her bicycle and quickly entered out into traffic when she was struck by a Northbound vehicle. The victim was transported to the QEII Hospital for non life threatening injuries and later issued a Summary Offence Ticket for failing to obey traffic signals.


7000 andrew street March 9, 2011 11-35194 - Break and Enter - At approximately 7:50 p.m., police responded to the 7000 block of Andrew Street in Halifax. Upon arrival, police located a 43-year-old male suffering from a wound to his head. It was learned that his home was broken into by two males. One male had a hand gun the other was carrying a hammer, the male suspect with the hammer struck the victim over the head. The suspects, then grabbed a quantity of cash and fled. The vehicle was abandoned and the supects fled on foot. The victim was taken to the QEII hospital for treatment, his injuries are not considered life threatening. Police seized the vehicle and the investigation is ongoing. The suspects were described as two males, one was a black male, 5'6" tall, 180 lbs, with some facial hair, wearing blue jeans, blue jacket and a grey sweater. The second suspect was a white male, blond hair, wearing dark coloured jeans.



BAYVIEW road & bedford highway March 3, 2011 11-32570- Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 8:37 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of the Bedford Highway and Bayview Road in Halifax. A collision occurred between two vehicles, resulting in a truck flipping on its side and landing on top of a taxi cab. The truck was travelling inbound and the taxi was turning onto Bayview Road when the collision occurred. Two individuals, including a passenger in the taxi, were taken to the hospital with back pain but both have since been released. The accident remains under investigation.


bayers road February 16, 2011 11-24118 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Metro Transit Bus - At 3:15 p.m., police responded to the area of Bayers Road in Halifax. Reports at the scene indicated a mini van type of vehicle rear ended the Metro Transit bus. The van then pulled onto a side street and one male party fled the vehicle. Police continue to investigate the matter, no one was injured during the incident.


PORTLAND street & green village lane February 16, 2011 11-24176 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 5:15 p.m., police responded to Portland Street and Green Village Lane in Dartmouth. A vehicle was travelling east on Portland Street and collided with a vehicle entering the intersection. A male passenger was taken to the QE2 Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The second vehicle had two children, one being an infant who were taken to the IWK for assessment. Both vehicles incurred extensive damage. Traffic was diverted around the accident scene. HRP Accident Investigation Section are investigating the accident.


5476 inglis street January 9, 2011 11-4067 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 2:48 a.m., a 29-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in front of 5476 Inglis Street. She was taken to the QE2 Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.


December 20, 2010 10-192749 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 1:31 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on the Dartmouth side of the MacKay Bridge. Upon arrival, officers found a damaged pickup truck and noted extensive damage to two toll booths. The 52-year-old male driver was removed from the vehicle by EHS and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency personnel and transported to the hospital with what is believed to be life threatening injuries. The Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Sectio officers were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The matter remains under investigation.


BAYVIEW drive & bedford highway December 19, 2010 10-192671 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 8:34 p.m., police responded to an motor vehicle accident on the Bedford Highway at Bayview Drive. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency extricated two people from a vehicle which was pinned against a power pole by a large pick up truck. The driver and passenger of the truck where not injured and did not require any medical attention. The occupants of the car, two men aged 26 and 34, were transported to the QE2 with serious but non life threatening injuries. The Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Section were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.


ROSEDALE avenue & dutch village road December 17, 2010 10-191696 - Pedestrian and Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 7:20 p.m., police responded to an accident at the intersection of Dutch Village Road and Rosedale Avenue in Halifax. An 11-year-old boy was struck in the leg while crossing in the cross-walk. The boy was not injured but taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver of the vehicle was issued a SOT for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a cross-walk.


NOVALEA drive & leeds street December 6, 2010 10- 186173 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Hit and Run - At 7:15 p.m., police responded to a hit and run involving a pedestrian, at the corner of Leeds Street and Novalea Drive in Halifax. A 61-year-old male was struck by a red car while crossing the street, he did not sustain any injuries from the accident. prince albert road & SINCLAIR Street November 19, 2010 10-177015 - Motor Vehicle Fatality - At 12:58 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on Prince Albert Road in Dartmouth. A vehicle travelling on Prince Albert Road lost control and struck a power pole near Sinclair Street. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Accident Investigation Section is investigating the incident. The identity of the driver is being withheld until next of kin are notified. Prince Albert Road between Hawthorne and Sinclair Streets was closed until approximately 7 a.m.


ROBIE street & beckfoot drive November 10, 2010 10-172296 - Injury Motor Vehicle and Pedestrian Accident - At 2:50 p.m. police responded to an motor vehicle and pedestrian accident at the corner of Robie and Inglis Streets in Halifax. A woman was jogging across Inglis Street at Robie Street when she was struck by a vehicle turning onto Inglis Street. The victim was transported to the hospital with a serious leg injury. The 21-year-old female driver of the vehicle has been issued a Summary Offense ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Tire Slashing - Overnight, twenty vehicles were damaged and tires were slashed in the area of Rose Way Court and Beckfoot Drive in Dartmouth. There were no witnesses to the events, owners of the vehicles noticed the damage during the day and called police.


3400 romans avenue November 6, 2010 10-170298 - Shots Fired - At approximately 7 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 3400 block of Romans Avenue in Halifax. Initial reports from witnesses in the area were that there was an altercation between two groups of males, and as a result of this altercation it appears that shots were fired back and forth between the groups. Varying reports indicate that there were between 8 and 12 shots fired in total. A number of residences were struck with gunfire but no one was injured. It does not appear that any of these residences were the intended target of the gunfire. It is believed that one of the suspects fled the area on foot, while a number of other suspects left the area in a vehicle, described as a white SUV with some chrome on the vehicle. The male who fled on foot is described a black male, in his early 20ís, approximately 6' and wearing a black puffy jacket.


DUNBRACK street & lacewood drive October 13, 2010 10-155834 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 9 p.m., police responded to corner of Lacewood Drive and Dunbrack Street in Halifax. A Ford truck going south on Dunbrack Street went through a red light and struck a Honda Civic going west on Lacewood Drive. The driver of the truck was not injured and was issued a ticket for going through a red light. The male driver of the Honda Civic was taken to QE2 Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The traffic lights were knocked down as a resulted of the accident, causing the intersection to be shut down for approximately two and half hours.


1000 tower road October 12, 2010 10-155586 - Stolen Motor Vehicle -police responded to a call of a male sleeping in a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Tower Road, Halifax. Further investigation, resulted in police recovering stolen property taken from other vehicles in the south end of Halifax. A 17-year-old male was arrested and faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a weapon and several property related charges and will attend court in the morning.


10-155834 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 9:00 p.m., police responded to corner of Lacewood Drive and Dunbrack Street, Halifax. A Ford truck went through a red light going south on Dunbrack Street and struck a Honda Civic going west on Lacewood Drive. The driver of the truck was not injured and issued a ticket for going through a red light. The male driver of the Honda Civic was taken to QE2 Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The traffic lights were knocked down as a resulted of the accident, causing the intersection to be shut down for approximately two and half hours.

lacewood drive October 5, 2010 10-151980 - Car and Pedestrian Accident - At 6:00 p.m., in the area of Lacewood Drive in Halifax. An adult female jogger was struck by a vehicle in an attempt to run across the street, after hitting the crosswalk button. She was transported to the QE2 Hospital by ambulance with injuries which do not appear to be life threatening. It does not appear that charges will be laid at this time.




400 portland street October 4, 2010 10-151624/151626 - Theft of Motor Vehicle - At 3:52 a.m., police responded to a call of theft of a motor vehicle from an address on Parker Street in Dartmouth. Officers located the vehicle a short while later, and a pursuit was initiated but then called off. A few minutes later, the suspect vehicle hit a tree in the 400 block of Portland Street. Two females were arrested at the scene. The matter remains under investigation.


somerset street October 3, 2010 10-149394 - Hit and Run - A 2:30 a.m., police were called to Somerset Street in Dartmouth. A driver of a grey or gold mini van or SUV struck a group of pedestrians, injuring two pedestrians, and then fled the scene. The injuries to the pedestrians are not believed to be life threatening. The rear window and a side window of the suspect vehicle may be smashed out and there may be blood on the outside of the vehicle. The matter remains under investigation.


TITUS street & main avenue September 26, 2010 10-146603 - Pedestrian and Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 3:50 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a pedestrian and motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Main Avenue and Titus Street in Halifax. Upon arrival at the scene, it was learned that a 24-year-old Halifax man had run in front of a vehicle travelling north on Main Avenue. The man suffered undetermined injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The man will be charged with failing to yield to a vehicle. No one else was injured in this incident.


WAVERLY road & craigburn avenue September 22, 2010 10-144215 - Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident - At 11:53 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Craigburn Avenue and Waverly Road, Dartmouth, as a result of a fatal motor vehicle accident. A car pulled out of Craigburn Avenue making a left turn onto Waverly Road and was broadsided by a truck on the Waverly Road. The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries. The vehicles were removed and seized for examination. The matter remains under investigation.



oxford street & QUINPOOL Road August 15, 2010 10-120701 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At 5:52 p.m., a west bound motorcycle struck a car turning right from Oxford Street onto Quinpool Road and then subsequently struck another car travelling eastbound on Quinpool Road. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries to his leg. This matter is still under investigation and charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are expected.


6324 quinpool road August 14, 2010 10-119793 - Impaired Driving - At 4:49 p.m., an officer approached a vehicle at the McDonalds at 6324 Quinpool Road in Halifax. The driver put the vehicle in drive and hit the unattended police vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating stolen vehicle.


purcells cove road August 14, 2010 10-120012 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 3:05 p.m., a two vehicle accident between a car and a bus occurred at near Purcell's Cove Road and Frog Pond. An 83-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim will not be released pending next of kin notification. Members of the Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Team are on presently on scene investigating the accident.


joseph howe drive & BAYERS Road August 9, 2010 10-116667 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 10:21 a.m., police responded to a report of a transport truck which overturned on Joseph Howe Drive off Highway 102, Halifax. Upon arrival, it was learned the truck flipped onto its side and struck a car. The driver of the car did not receive any injuries. The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics and taken to the QE2 Hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries. Joseph Howe Drive was closed between Mumford Road and Bayers Road for several hours. The matter remains under investigation.


July 14, 2010 10-101429 - Car and Pedestrian Accident - At 12:30 p.m., police responded to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of Stanbrae and Purcells Cove Roads in Halifax. A pedestrian crossing the street was struck by a truck when the driver attempted to pass a Metro Transit Bus. A 14-year-old male was transported to the hospital non-life threatening injuries. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident. The matter remains under investigation.


6000 almon street July 3, 2010 10-95843 - Industrial Accident - At 6:25 p.m. police responded to an industrial accident in the 6000 block of Almon Street in Halifax. A 22-year-old man sustained injuries as a result of a fire that occurred while he was working on a vehicle. The man was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.


1316 old sambro road June 21, 2010 10-88867 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 4:45 p.m., a three vehicle accident occurred at 1316 Old Sambro Road in Halifax. A vehicle was travelling outbound on the Old Sambro Road and failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the centre line and struck a Metro Transit Access-a-Bus travelling inbound. The vehicle spun and collided with a pick-up truck. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the QEII Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor in the cause of the accident.


ROBIE street & lady hammond road June 20, 2010 10-88133 - Car Pedestrian Accident - At approximately 12:27 p.m., police responded to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of Lady Hammond Road and Robie Street in Halifax. A 14-year-old boy was crossing the street and was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Lady Hammond Road that had proceed through the intersection on a green light. The vehicle struck the youth and drove on top of him. Several people, including off duty firefighters, ran to the car and lifted it on its side. The youth was taken to the IWK Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.


PORTLAND street & pleasant street June 19, 2010 10-86741 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At midnight, police responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Portland Street near the north-bound exit to Highway 111. Witnesses stated that the driver of a 2010 Camaro struck the rear end of another vehicle at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Highway 111. The driver did not stop but continued north-bound on Highway 111 traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver took the Portland Street exit, driving over the median and striking a concrete wall. The Camaro received extensive damage. The driver was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital. The driver of the hit vehicle was also treated for neck pain at the hospital. A 33-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested for drinking and driving and faces charges of refusal of the Breathalyser and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He was released to attend court at a later date.


quinpool road June 16, 2010 10-85333 - Bicycle and Motor Vehicle Accident - At 4:20 p.m., a man riding a bicycle on Quinpool Road in Halifax was struck by a vehicle turning right into a parking lot. The cyclist flipped over the engine bonnet of the car and the vehicle ran over the cyclist's legs. The man was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No charges have been laid at this point. The matter is still under investigation.


BURNS drive & primrose street June 8, 2010 10-81385 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Impaired Driver - At 9 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Primrose Street and Robert Burns Drive in Dartmouth. Prior to officers arriving on scene, the driver of one of the vehicles attempted to flee the scene but was thwarted by witnesses. He was arrested for impaired driving, taken into custody and later released. He will appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.
