The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries to his leg. This matter is still under investigation and charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are expected. |

August 14, 2010 | 10-120012 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 3:05 p.m., a two vehicle accident between a car and a bus occurred at near Purcell's Cove Road and Frog Pond. An 83-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim will not be released pending next of kin notification. Members of the Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Team are on presently on scene investigating the accident. |

August 9, 2010 | 10-116667 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At 10:21 a.m., police responded to a report of a transport truck which overturned on Joseph Howe Drive off Highway 102, Halifax. Upon arrival, it was learned the truck flipped onto its side and struck a car. The driver of the car did not receive any injuries. The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics and taken to the QE2 Hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries. Joseph Howe Drive was closed between Mumford Road and Bayers Road for several hours. The matter remains under investigation. |

A pedestrian crossing the street was struck by a truck when the driver attempted to pass a Metro Transit Bus. A 14-year-old male was transported to the hospital non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle spun and collided with a pick-up truck. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the QEII Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor in the cause of the accident. |

June 20, 2010 | 10-88133 - Car Pedestrian Accident - At approximately 12:27 p.m., police responded to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of Lady Hammond Road and Robie Street in Halifax. A 14-year-old boy was crossing the street and was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Lady Hammond Road that had proceed through the intersection on a green light. The vehicle struck the youth and drove on top of him. Several people, including off duty firefighters, ran to the car and lifted it on its side. The youth was taken to the IWK Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation. |

June 19, 2010 | 10-86741 - Motor Vehicle Accident - At midnight, police responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Portland Street near the north-bound exit to Highway 111. Witnesses stated that the driver of a 2010 Camaro struck the rear end of another vehicle at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Highway 111. The driver did not stop but continued north-bound on Highway 111 traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver took the Portland Street exit, driving over the median and striking a concrete wall. The Camaro received extensive damage. The driver was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital. The driver of the hit vehicle was also treated for neck pain at the hospital. A 33-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested for drinking and driving and faces charges of refusal of the Breathalyser and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He was released to attend court at a later date. |

June 16, 2010 | 10-85333 - Bicycle and Motor Vehicle Accident - At 4:20 p.m., a man riding a bicycle on Quinpool Road in Halifax was struck by a vehicle turning right into a parking lot. The cyclist flipped over the engine bonnet of the car and the vehicle ran over the cyclist's legs. The man was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No charges have been laid at this point. The matter is still under investigation. |

June 8, 2010 | 10-81385 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Impaired Driver - At 9 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Primrose Street and Robert Burns Drive in Dartmouth. Prior to officers arriving on scene, the driver of one of the vehicles attempted to flee the scene but was thwarted by witnesses. He was arrested for impaired driving, taken into custody and later released. He will appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer. |

June 6, 2010 | 10-79502/10-79503 - Hit and Run and Impaired Driving - At approximately 1:40 p.m., a grey Kia Forte struck another vehicle near 21 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. While fleeing the scene, the vehicle drove across a lawn and struck a nearby house, causing substantial damage to the front porch and lawn. The vehicle managed to continue until it struck a light standard pole at the corner of Maple and Dahlia Streets. At this point several witnesses suggested to the driver that he remain at the scene until police arrived. The driver, a nineteen-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He was held to appear in court on Monday to face several driving offences including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle struck by the Kia was treated by EHS at the scene for minor injuries. |

Emergency vehicles responded and Nova Scotia Power was called to replace the pole. No one was injured during the incident. A 39-year-old man was issued a Summary Offense Ticket. |

May 26, 2010 | 10-74369 - Motor Vehicle Accident and Shots Fired - At approximately 9 p.m, two vehicles were travelling inbound on Main Street in the area of Forest Hills Parkway. A Nissan Sentra with two occupants, pulled up beside a Cadillac with one occupant. One of the suspects in the Sentra began shooting at the Cadillac. Both vehicles made u-turns, with the Sentra pursuing the Cadillac. An East Quick Response Unit in the area at the time observed the Sentra run a red light and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Nissan turned onto Forest Hills Parkway at a high rate of speed and rear ended a vehicle. Both suspects attempted to flee the vehicle on foot but were quickly apprehended by police. The Cadillac was later located in North Preston and seized by police for further examination. Four bullet holes were found in the vehicle. The occupant of the vehicle has not yet been located but it is believed he was not injured in the incident. The 19-year-old male driver of the Sentra faces charges of failing to stop at an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm and breaching a court order. The vehicle was located a short distance later at the top of Nantucket Avenue up against a tree with extensive damages. The 22-year-old female driver was extracted from the vehicle by EHS and Fire. April 10, 2010 | 10-49427 - Injury Motor Vehicle Accident - At approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Braemar Drive in Dartmouth. Initial investigation indicates that a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Silverado collided head on near the intersection of Braemar Drive and Braeside Court. According to residents who heard the crash, the male driver of the Silverado fled the scene on foot toward Waverley Road. The three occupants of the Corolla, two men and a woman, were trapped and required the jaws of life to extract them from the vehicle. All three were taken to the QE11 with serious injures. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time. Update - (2:47 p.m.) Police are still looking for the driver of the v Silverado who fled the scene of an accident. Late today, through legal council, police learned that the driver had contacted family members and was seeking medical assistance for his injuries. The investigation into the accident continues. |

February 4, 2010 | 10-17534 -Impaired Driver -Approximately 2:00 a.m., an SUV travelling northbound on Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax, struck a power pole shearing it completely off. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and refusing the Breathalyzer. He was treated by ambulance at the scene for a minor facial injury. Many residences in the West End of Halifax were without power. Highway 102 and Mumford Road were closed until 7:00 a.m. to remove the vehicle and power lines. Mumford Road was closed from Romans Avenue to Joseph Howe Drive due to power lines being down. Motorists are advised that lights at several intersections are not operational. Police were present at major intersections to direct traffic. Motorist are reminded to treat those intersections as a four-way stop. Nova Scotia Power crews advised police it may be several hours before power is restored. The public should contact Nova Scotia Power for further updates on power restoration. |

February 2, 2010 | 10-15987 - Hit and Run - At 7:08 a.m., police responded to a hit and run accident on the Mackay bridge. A Dartmouth bound vehicle, struck another car and fled the area towards highway 111. At approximately 7:55 a.m., the same vehicle struck a pole in front of 47 Joseph Young Street in Dartmouth and ran inside an apartment building. A 29-year-old man was arrested and face charges of impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He will appear in court at a later date. There were no injuries in either accident. |
